Children and a Home Based Business

Before anyone with children makes the decision to set up a home based internet marketing business, there are many things they should and must consider. I won’t lie to you, it isn’t all peaches and cream and there are people who crash and burn within a few months of quitting their jobs that pinned their hopes on making a fortune online. But I will tell you this, making good money from a home based internet marketing business around your family is happening and generating income for families all over the world.

So how do you maintain a home based business and have children at the same time? First and foremost, a decision such as this must be a family one. You have to include your spouse and children in the decision as it directly affects them. If one of the walls is missing, then your home business will fall apart. Just as a house, this type of business needs full support to weather the days and become grand.

Working around children is a huge task. Most kids, especially in their early years, need to be looked after on a constant basis making it difficult to have time for your business. These suggestions might not seem all that pleasant, but to make a go of a home based business, you must be willing to do whatever it takes.

Get up half an hour earlier than normal to address any business details that occurred the previous day or overnight. These could be emails, phone calls, mail, advertising, or what have you. Make some calls during quiet time (possibly nap time or what have you) as you can find a quiet corner with your phone and do a lot more than you think in that short period of time if you put your mind to it. If your children are into sports, dance, or other outside activities, then use a cell phone (with an unlimited plan of course) to do some follow-up. Might sound a bit odd, but people looking into a work from home business will actually find this a good thing as they can do business while still being able to be out like this. After you put the kids to bed, get back at it again. This could be online advertising, dealing with the day’s events or emails, or planning out the next day’s to-do list. Very important is that to-do list as it will ensure that you are able to sleep without playing it through your mind all night, trust me I have been there.

Involve your children as much as possible with your business. This way they will not feel so left out when you ask for some quiet time to take care of it. Depending on the age of the kids, I have heard of many different ways this can be done. Obviously infants do not have much to say or that they can do, however you can always take them along if you need to run business errands, deliver products, put out flyers, post pull tabs or whatever you need to in order to grow your business. Pre-school age kids love to color and draw – at least mine do. Have them make marketing posters or pictures. Chances are you will not use them, however they may come up with an idea or two you did think of. Older children are more than capable of helping with regular tasks, just make sure that you have some sort of reward at the end of it all. We would give the kids the choice of some family fun time or a treat (a simple ice cream was typically the treat) for their helping out. The older the kids, the more you can ask them to help with.

Another thing that we have found very effective, especially with school age and up, is to have them write out a “dream list”. This would be things they can have or do once the business hits a certain point (you can determine that). Get them to make pictures or cut them out and paste them on a board for all to see. This is a great reminder when you need the time for business while they are around. Might sound like a materialistic thing, but you may be surprised at what they come up with. I know I was.

I hope these tips have helped and I wish nothing but success making income at home.

Home Based Business Success Needs

All of us have heard about people that created their own successful home based businesses. Just imagine, that you are always at home taking care for your family, you have a beautiful home office from where you are conducting your home based business for clients that appreciate you. You have enough time for your children and for your home life.

A dream or do you think all this could be in the reality? The answer to this question is easy. Yes, it is absolutely true and everyone can manage to build up home based business allowing them to enjoy all its advantages. Here are some tips that will help you start your own successful home based business.

First and foremost you need passion. It is impossible to achieve a high level of success in any business without feeling a passion for what you are doing. You have to really love your work, the products, the people and the opportunity. So choose a home business match which you will honestly enjoy being a part of.

Then, you also need motivators. Simply, a motivator is your “WHY” for starting a home based business. If you have proper motivators, your business will be a successful one. To make money is of course an important outcome for business, however if it is your only motivator then you will not reach the success level you are shooting for. Are you are motivated to spend more time with your family, or share your business with other people who will benefit from it, or being financially stable, or saving for your retirement? Whatever your “why”, you need to make sure that you focus on daily. Write it down and post it close so it is visible for you to read every day. Some find it even more motivating to have pictures of their “Why” if possible as they would like to see their dreams coming to fruition.

You need to have clear and attainable goals. They will help you to stay focused as well as to stay on track. Write down all your goals with having a work from home business and keep this list where you can see it. Do you have want to get rid of your debt, buy new appliances for your house, go on a family vacation? These are great things to strive for and are great motivators in creating a home based business. Once you have almost reached your goals, make sure to make new ones that will keep you moving forward. You do not want to hit a goal and become idle in your business as you always want to look forward to keep building and improving.

Having clear business values and ethics can also help to reach the success in your home based business. If you cannot maintain these with your choice of business, then you will never be successful because you will be going against your morals. You need to be yourself, natural and real for people to believe what you are saying and what you represent. Defining your business purposes and values will help you to choose the proper home business match and to create a successful home based enterprise.

Today it is a problem to find a legitimate work from home business, so you need to run your business honestly and with integrity. If you will do this, so you will have more clients/prospects and it means that your home based business will be successful.

Time Management in an Online Business System

One of the biggest things plaguing home based business entrepreneurs is time management. Since we do not have someone setting our schedules and making sure our duties are accomplished, it is our responsibility to ensure that our time is spent wisely. This is true for those that have a solo work from home business as well as those involved in an online business system, as this is what will make your business profitable. If you have members in your team, you will need to figure out how to spend your own time so you can teach your team how to which is a definite win-win situation.

Recently I was reminded of “The Pareto Principle: The 20/80 Principle”. I was re-reading “Developing the Leader Within You” by John C Maxwell, and states this principle as this. “20 percent of your priorities will give you 80 percent of your production IF you spend your time, energy, money, and personnel on the top 20 percent of your priorities.” What I read into this principle is simply send 80 percent of your time on the 20 percent of activities that are most profitable. Leave the 80 percent of duties that are not money making till you have the time, or get someone else to do them if you are able to would be even better.

You can never overestimate the unimportance of practically everything.

As I am sure everyone in Network Marketing or MLM business has heard, “It is not how hard your work; it is how smart you work.” We have all shuffled papers, answered emails and phone calls that have tied up our entire day which has produced little to no profit to our business. If you figure out what gives you the most profit, or those people that are most productive and spend your time dealing with those, you are on a great road for success.

Efficiency is the foundation for survival. Effectiveness is the foundation for success.

Figuring out what the top 20 percent profit makers are is tough, but here is a hint that I learned at one of the trainings I attended. Make a list of everything that makes up your business, and write everything – tasks and people. Now look at each and think “If this has a negative action against me, what will the impact likely be?” If it can hurt your business, put a check beside it. If it will not impede or harm your bottom too much, leave it. The ones with the checks are the ones that make up the 20 percent and the ones you should spend the majority of your time looking after. This little trick has helped me with my online business, so I hope you find it useful as well.

Productivity vs Busy

Have you ever come to the end of a day and say “Was I ever busy today.” Then you look back and wonder why your day was not so profitable.

First off, you must understand that there is a difference between busy and productive. Activity without purpose is being busy, while focused activity brings accomplishment and that creates productivity. So what is focused activity? By this I mean that you are aware of what your goals are and have the intention to do the activity that will see these goals come to fruition.

You can spend all your day answering the phone, writing emails, moving papers around, and the like, but that is just being busy. These things will not ultimately get you toward achieving your goals. You need to make sure that you are accomplishing the activities that will produce the desired outcome which puts you one step closer to your goals. This could be placing an advertisement, talking to 10 people per day about your product or opportunity, holding / planning a group meeting or training. Whatever it is, you need to make sure you have your vision aimed at your target.

Perform all your activities with enthusiasm as this will create an enjoyable atmosphere. Enthusiasm is derived from the Greek meaning “to be inspired (entheos) from god (en- + theos)”. If you have been inspired to strive to something, then let your spirit aid you in making the journey a more pleasant one. As a bonus to you, your enthusiasm will shine through to everyone you speak with creating a better impact of what you are offering to your prospects and in turn will create more sales for you. Not a bad return for having fun.

For you to grow your business effectively, you will need to grow in your personal development. This means to better yourself in the art of your business. The only investments that will have the most long term effects and therefore profits, are those investments made in one’s own knowledge and skill. When you implement what you have learned, it becomes earnings.

When you start to bring these three aspects together – vision, enthusiasm and skill – you will be surprised at how fast your business will develop. You will see an increase in volume and will create better value in what you have. You will lower your operating costs overall as you are becoming more efficient by being effective. This does not happen overnight, however given enough time and done consistently, this productivity turns into much larger profits.

Managing Your Home Based Business

It appears that the changes in the world’s economic situation are playing a major role in promoting Home Based Businesses. This occurrence in the industry is expected to keep recording remarkable growth because of its many advantages, including simplicity of its management. Many people will keep exploring opportunities that could result in their dreams for financial stability, all of which has been simplified through the power of the internet. Therefore, there is the tendency that online business systems will continue to strive.

However, any business, including a home based business that is not properly managed is on its way to collapse! Below are some things that you need to “manage” in order for your business to thrive.

One of the first things that require attention is your budget considerations. For instance, at the start of your home business, your focus should be placed on start-up budget and costs such as the cost of hardware / software, internet connectivity, sign up or activation fees, and other business materials you may need. Like any new business, if your budget is not well managed, it can lead to over spending / under funding causing you to lose focus or interest right off the bat.

In addition to your budget considerations, you will need to constantly match the running or ongoing business costs with your set budget. These can be in the form of recurrent cost for subscriptions, advertising or marketing, training and any other monthly charges. The overall goal here is to ensure that at any stage of your business’ life, your budget is capable of providing for these costs while still making your business function profitably.

Something that a lot of new online business systems entrepreneurs forget to include in their management is for them to acquire adequate training on each of the programs they are affiliated with. Most work from home opportunities are packaged with comprehensive training and learning tools that are focused on leading you to success. Training becomes very important because your business requires that you assist your downline affiliates to succeed. You can only do this if you yourself have got enough of it to pass on, so understanding the business will only strengthen your ability to succeed.

Because marketing is essential for success of any business, you will need to learn and apply all applicable marketing strategies available to promote your home business. You will need a good combination of these marketing strategies because you cannot rely on just one or two. Like any other type of business, you need to strategically put forth your online business to the appropriate audience with the intention of attracting prospective customers to come and buy. In most cases, this happens through various methods that drive traffic of meaningful number of online visitors to your online home business website

Bookkeeping is another critical aspect of management in any business and even more so with a home based business. This said though, you do not need to be an accountant to handle your books and record keeping. A moderate level of knowledge in the use of spreadsheet software (e.g. Microsoft Excel) should be enough to manage the basic bookkeeping of your home business. Main things you will need is all your expenses organized by category, a breakdown of sales, and a simple ledger and profit and loss accounts.

The last thing I want to mention, however it is one of the most crucial with working from home, is time management. An advantage of a home business is ability to operate around your family schedule or on a part-time basis. Keep in mind though that if care is not taken, what is considered as a benefit can have a reverse effect on the survival of your business. In order to avoid that from occurring, the time spent on your business must be efficiently and effectively utilized while at the same time your family / primary job does not suffer. A home based business demands a large amount of self control and discipline to be successful as you do not have to answer to anyone but you. Maintain proper scheduling of your tasks by use of any means that you are able to utilize is highly recommended. Create a daily to-do list that is structured towards achieving your goals and make sure you update this either every night or first thing in the morning.

You can keep these management “duties” simple, but make sure you have them in place. They are not difficult or demanding, but they are crucial if you want to be successful with any online business system.

The Flames of Attrition

What can you do to stomp out the fire of attrition before it burns your house to the ground?

If you’ve ever lost anybody in your downline and wondered what you could do to stop it from happening again then I hope these ideas find you before it gets worse, because once the flames start, it’s “game over”.

So Here’s Six Ways To Douse Downline Attrition…

Vaccinate them: Treat attrition like the flu and immunize your downline by preparing them for the worst. People will leave, but tell them that you have faith in their ability to stay the course. Warn them about the dangers of switching horses in midstream. Remind them about the regrets of never seeing anything through.

It’s time for a group hug: Stay in contact with as many members of your downline as you can. If you have a massive downline then this could be a challenge, but they’re your family and they need to know you care. Otherwise, they’ll find another house with somebody else who cares more, and that’s one of the oldest horror stories you hear again and again: “My upline ignores my e-mails.”

They don’t follow you: If members in your downline come to you with a “better” opportunity then you’re seeing the first signs of attrition. I’m not saying that you should ignore good ideas, but you can’t succeed by jumping ship every six months, and you should be ruthless with anybody in your downline who tries to plant those seeds in your business. If you have to, cut them off before they spread.

Stick to your guns: How do you expect your downline to stick with you if you don’t stick with your upline or the opportunity you have? The answer is, you can’t. So make sure you have your head straight about the opportunity you’re in right now. Build your house with bricks, not straw.

Guard your reputation: Nothing can kill you faster than losing your reputation. In the age of communication a whole business can die while you’re sleeping. A scary thought, but your whole business is built on your integrity and one bad “episode” will send everybody running out of your house faster than a stampede of wild horses. So guard your reputation at all costs - no price is too high.

The enemy of my enemy: Unite everybody under you by making attrition your biggest enemy. Some people try to pretend it doesn’t exist at all. They paddle away with their water wings while the shark is playing the tuba underneath. Jaws theme song…

Final words: In short, you must know that attrition will happen and prepare everybody you recruit for the worst case scenario. Attrition is one of the biggest enemies of modern day MLM. If you simply stand by and watch your downline disappear, it’s like watching your house burn down with your family inside, while you’re drinking water from a hose.

My Thoughts on Home Business Match Opportunities

With the economy on its way back up – I truly believe this – there are a lot of people looking to change how they earn a living. I have been reading a lot of questions on different sites by people asking about certain home based businesses and also how they can earn income at home. I would like to tell you about my thoughts on these matters. I will go over three types of opportunities that you can do from home.

First I would like to say this to those looking for a change. You need to ask yourself if you want a job or a business. The difference is simple. A job is where you work for someone else and get paid by them according to their rules. A business is where you are the boss, the CEO and create income from the work that you put into Your Business. A job should never cost you to become involved in (not directly, however certain personal training might cost money), whereas a business always requires upfront investments and ongoing expenses. This should not be a shock to anyone as every business, from the simplest street vendor to the biggest corporation, has daily costs for them to earn a profit to put back into the business to keep making a profit. Make sense…good.

As I am involved in a work from home business myself, I am going to start here. There are many different types of a home business match out there doing a wide range of things. One thing that they all have in common is some sort of marketing and sales. It doesn’t matter if there is not a product, you will need to attract people to you through various methods in order for your business to succeed. Anyone that says you can sit back and watch the people come in is not interested in your success, just your money. You will hear many descriptions from Affiliate Marketing (basically promoting someone else’s products), Network Marketing (creating a huge circle of people interested as you are – not as tough as it sounds), and Multi-Level Marketing (contrary to what you may have read, there are many legitimate businesses using this model that are extremely successful). No matter which type you choose, make sure to look into the background of the company, the products they have (if there is no products, be wary as there is nothing tangible to ensure your success), and any affiliates they are with. Search for unbiased sources – not just other people looking to sway you toward their opportunity – such as the Better Business Bureau, the New York Stock Exchange (if the company is publicly traded), professional business trainers/writers and so forth. One hint is to look for a business in an area that interests you. This will give you a better chance for success if you enjoy what you have. This takes some time, but it is all worth it in the end.

Another way to earn an incomeathome is to find a position with a company that outsources some of their duties. By this I mean that instead of hiring someone to come in to their place of business to perform these functions and have to pay more in terms of space, benefits and materials, they get someone to take care of these from their own home. Things that I put into this category would be positions such as transcription (taking audio and putting it onto paper), at home travel agent (online and phone bookings), copy-writing and editing. All of these you do for another company and get paid for the amount you do. They are also very low cost to you as you typically only need a computer, internet connection, phone, and sometimes a printer. These types of jobs are not easy to come by as they are very popular, however if you are good at them, you can secure yourself with a company and have a long term relationship with them.

There are others out there, but please be aware of what you are getting into. I do not advocate getting involved in any type of home assembly / envelop stuffing or the like as I have tried these and after spending a lot on materials, shipping, and just the opportunity itself, I ended up with nothing.

In summary, pick an industry that you enjoy to assist you with your success. Research the company, products, and even the people if possible prior to joining. Use unbiased sources for your decision making as this will give you the real truth behind what the opportunity is about. And finally, have fun!!! If you enjoy what you are into, you cannot help but be a huge success.
